Wedding album wipe-out is brides’ worst woe
botched DIY photography creates new fears about data loss
Sixty-three per cent of brides’ worst fear is losing their wedding photos according to a data loss survey conducted by Kroll Ontrack, the leading data management company. Through its Ontrack Data Recovery services, Kroll Ontrack discovered that as we approach the Summer wedding season, pictures of the big day are considered priceless by 84 per cent of brides. Many are also relying on friends and family to capture the big day in order to cut costs. With a majority of images now in digital form, the risk of accidentally deleting, damaging or losing the carefully captured memories is a challenge that couples must guard against. Kroll Ontrack experts recommend making an immediate back-up copy of the photos at the time of transfer from the camera to the PC or other storage device. But don’t stop there… be sure to check the quality of the copy by inspecting the photos and store the copies in a separate location from the originals, such as online. The most important point brides should remember however, is that if images are lost, don’t panic and do not attempt to fix the problem yourself as this can make it worse – speak to an expert. “There are so many advantages to being able to manage your own wedding pictures at home,” explains Ciaran Farrell, business development manager, Kroll Ontrack Ireland. “They can be emailed to family and friends, edited and printed, and best of all, it can be an effective cost-cutting method. That is, if images have been backed up appropriately to avoid huge disappointment if and when the machine or image files fail.” “Our data recovery engineers receive many desperate pleas from couples who think they’ve lost their digital wedding album. Fortunately, in most cases, we’ve been able to utilise our specialist knowledge and proprietary tools to recover data from both Apple Macs and PCs and preserve the happy memories. It’s one of the best calls to make to a customer, because you can tell how much it means to them.” Read more about our Data Recovery ServicesAbout KLDiscovery
