Recovery requests soar in the virtual world

~ companies cry out as reality bites ~

As more companies adopt virtualisation strategies, requests for data recovery from virtual environments have increased ten-fold over the past twelve months.

Kroll Ontrack®, the world’s leading data recovery company, released this figure ahead of VMworld® Europe, taking place between the 24th and the 26th of February 2009 in Cannes.

Whilst server virtualisation has been popular over the past few years, businesses are now increasingly adopting a virtualised desktop infrastructure. This means that the amount of potentially critical data held in a virtual environment has increased exponentially. The most common causes of data loss from such environments include RAID failure, VMDK corruption and deleted virtual machines.

Through its Ontrack® Data Recovery services, Kroll Ontrack has monitored demand for recovery from virtual environments. As a result of the recognised need, its expert engineers developed proprietary technology, enabling Kroll Ontrack to serve as the first company to successfully perform recoveries from VMware® systems.

"Virtualisation has a great number of benefits for all types of organisations, especially those with dispersed workforces," said Robert Bloomquist, principal data recovery engineer at Kroll Ontrack. "Over the next twelve months we will see virtual environments adopted by an increasing number of departments. It is essential that water-tight disaster recovery plans are in place before we enter this new and exciting technology era."

Kroll Ontrack will have representatives from the UK, Germany, France, Poland and Norway at VMworld Europe, and can be found on stand 38.
